info:
Formed in January 2005, Special Brew 1.2 is the collaborative project of Glaswegian musicians Edmund Coleman & Mark Murphy.
Inspired by a mutual love of toy keyboards, improvisation and the aesthetic of Outsider music. Special Brew was originally conceived as a live act, and this remains the main creative force behind their output. Using elements of electronica and traditional music they compose spontaneously as they record, using banjo, cheap 80's keyboards, guitar and vocal effects to build up dense textures of melody, rhythm and noise.
Coleman & Murphy originally formed to play a one-off gig in Edinburgh but they carried on their initial experiments and have now recorded several hours of music. They recently played at STFU in Manchester and are currently arranging some gigs in Glasgow.
The music on this release was taken from the sessions leading up to STFU.
